Samhain (Halloween)

This ancient celebration has turned into another commercial business money maker and is far from what the original celebrations were about.
The Celts are believed to have started the celebrations.  It is believed to have been the most important of the ancient Celtic feast.
The feast of samhain has so many different aspects to it.
It marked the beginning of the new dark season (winter) into the light season (spring) which is believed is how the Celts saw the cycle of the year. They believed that new beginnings started with the seed below the ground in the dark and come into the light just as the seasons do.
The Celtic day of celebration began at dusk at the beginning of the cold dark night and ended at dusk at the end of warmth and light.  As with the year cycle.
They would celebrate the gathering in of the harvest and the bringing down and in of the livestock from the summer pastures. They would feast on the best of the harvest and some of the livestock. They would also cast the bones of the feasted livestock on to the bonfire.
The bonfire was the main focus of the celebrations and the settlements and villages would have a great bonfire. Where they would have rituals and offerings as thanks for the harvest also along side of this some of the offerings and rituals would be for the wishes and healing for the coming year. The great bonfires were also thought to have protective and cleansing powers.
Before the big feast and bonfire the villages would clean through their home and put out all the fires in the hearth.  They would then relight them at the end of the celebrations with a flames from the great bonfire. Which then they believed bonded the families and also brought them blessings for the new beginnings for the new year to come.
The date of samhain is nearly the half way point between the autumn equinox and winter solstice.  This is a reason why the Celts believed the world of spirit could pass easier over to the world of the earth bound on this day.  As part of the celebrations the Celts would set places for the souls of kin to join them for the celebrations and offer food and drink to them.  But there were also unwanted souls that came back through. So the younger Celts would dress up as ghouls and run round causing havoc to ward these unwanted souls away.  Most of the homes would have a jack o lantern at the door, these were traditionally made out of turnips or sugar beat.
My main reason for posting this is I have a hope that our community could start our own traditions based on the Celtic festival. They don't have to be big gatherings just a few folks enjoying and celebrating together around a bonfire with some food and our children dressed up and having fun.
We all live far and wide so if you have a couple of families that live close enough, invite them round and have fun. But to make a true tradition please try to keep the date as the 31st of October. I know this is hard with most folk working different shifts but it is one night.

The following is some suggestions for food with a samhain feel and a bit of fun for the children.

Hello and welcome to the women's division blog.

British Movement Women's Division, is the female side to the BM, we are here to help the men folk and be a back bone of support when needed also having our own projects to run along side all the main movement and youth section. As I see it we are not about hate we are here to help our race and great nation survive. Through history all the great men have had strong women behind them and I hope we can all help our great men get where we need to be.
I have finally succumbed to the pressure to start a blog up and hopefully I can keep it updated with stuff that you all want to read about.
Yes some of my views and thoughts might seem old fashioned but at times some of the old ways are the best.
